Charlie grew up in Washington State, first in his home town of Spokane, then later in Seattle, where he worked as a software engineer and professional services consultant for a dot-com company. In 2003 he moved to his wife’s home state of Michigan and continues to work in software. His first book, Burning Embers and Other Stories of Marriage, Work, and Family, originated from writing stories about the move to Michigan and the challenges of adapting to life in his new home.
Charlie writes haiku poetry and has been published in the foremost American haiku journals. He has won recognition for his work, including Honorable Mention from The Heron’s Nest’s annual awards and reprinting of his poems in two Red Moon Press anthologies.
Charlie has published two volumes of very short stories, “Kites and Weddings” and “Rough & Beautiful”. He is at work on “The Art of the Very Short Story”, a collection of essays on techniques for writers.
